Rebuild/update radio question
Rebuild/update radio question
I recently acquired a AM/FM radio for what I believe is a 1965 as part of a parts lot,. The dial/tuner spins but needle doesn't and unknown if it powers up. I'm wondering if there is anyone that will rebuild these and may be able to add an aux or Bluetooth while keeping its original appearance. Is it even worth it? Opinions?
I am having S/M Electro-Tech rebuild mine as we speak with Bluetooth, it is taking @ 9-10 weeks with Covid going on. I can't wait to try it out.

Absolutely the radio can be rebuilt and/or restored (not necessarily the same thing). I had my original '69 AM rebuilt several years ago. You can find quite a few places that perform this service but definitely go with a trusted recommendation. I don't remember who did mine but it's worked well ever since the work was done.
I was prepared to have mine converted to AM/FM but after researching several restorers, it seemed like the general consensus was the FM conversion would hurt reliability/durability so I didn't do it. Maybe things are different now. You'll also see lots of places offering the Bluetooth additions, etc. I was also informed to steer clear of these. Again, several years ago.
Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. Good luck.

I sent my original to Tayman Electric and they converted it to digital with Bluetooth. I can stream music from my phone or iPod. It works with the original controls and buttons. That was about 8 years ago and it works great. I love it. I think it cost close to $500.00 but I cannot remember for sure.

Oldsrocket88, I am paying @$610 for my radio to be converted with all the updated features including Bluetooth and all the different inputs along with the additional wattage. Their prices are all on the website. I am also upgrading to four speakers that will handle the new electronics. My center dash speaker will now have dual speakers.

Your profile says you're from Illinois. I was talking with this gentleman.

He is in Illinois and he was considerably cheaper than the other sites if you got the full blown package that included the radio on until you open the door features, etc.
