quarter pannel replacement

Looking at buying quarter pannel skins and cutting and welding. Anyone go this route? Is the gauge of metal comparable to originals? Overall impression??

I replaced both of mine on my 72 442. I didn't have a problem with the gauge of the metal. I butt welded both sides. If you do decide to replace your quarter you are probably going to have to replace the trunk drop down and maybe the outer wheel wheels. You will be surprised with the additional rust you will find that is hidden under the panels.I did not find complete quarters and I don't think there are any patch panels for them either.
