Powermaster 9610 Starter for 307/350

I have just purchased a Powermaster 9610 to install on my '84 Hurst/Olds which now has a rebuilt '71 350 in it (307 stored) with the 307 flexplate which was used to balance the 350 crankshaft and I believe are the same flexplate for both engines. I have always previously used OE starters and have never installed an aftermarket starter on the engine. Would anyone know if the Powermaster requires the internal and mounting shims for the 307 and 350? I would very much like to install it once and limit time on my back under the car. Many thanks to anyone who may provide guidance!!!

Starters are designed for no shims, however sometimes deviations require the use of them. Make sure you are using the proper bolts and they are tight. Follow the directions on setting the proper clearance. Not much you can do until its up there.

All 1968-1990 Olds V8 flexplates are the same except for those used on 307s in FWD applications with the TH325 trans (which are smaller in diameter). Since that is not the case for your 84, that is not an issue. Starter should work just fine.

Thanks For The Tech Help!

Thanks to all who gave me the helpful tech tips on the Powermaster 9610! You guys are great! Its one item among many that I'm R&R'ing on the car to wake it up from almost four years of storage.

Would anyone know where I might locate a upper radiator hose-to-fan shroud clamp/strap for the '81-'88 Cutlass 307? I think I might have the original for my '84 H/O but it's in storage in another state with all of the original under-hood parts I'm keeping and I am in need of one now.

Thanks again to all.

Cheers!
Dave
