Power Steering

Restoring a 1972 Cutlass with 350.

Moved my power steering pump to opposite side of engine with newer bracket. Engine had A.C. pump. Removed A.C.

Started engine and fan blew power steering fluid all over engine. Power steering fluid was coming from cap as though there was too much pressure.

Ideas?

moving the alt is immaterial.
Over filled PS reservoir or a leak comes to mind as the problem

Any new P/S hoses that may have been built with the wrong fittings for the steering box?

There is a recent thread on this forum that addresses a similar issue.

HUH???

There are no Oldsmobile applications with the PS pump on the passenger side of the engine. ALL 1964-1990 Olds V8s mount the pump on the driver's side. Are you really talking about the POWER STEERING PUMP or the ALTERNATOR?

Just out of curiosity...... Why? And what hoses did you use, and how did you route them?
Pictures?

Yes, so doing this is not RESTORING the vehicle, it's MODIFYING it.

Actually, my point was that doing it isn't possible. I've never seen a bracket that mounts the PS pump on the passenger side of the engine - there is no logical reason to do it.

The fact that the O.P. hasn't been back to this thread since the first post tells me that he meant to write "alternator"...

Agreed about the PS bracket. The alternator being relocated makes sense with the statement about removing the AC, although I can't imagine why anyone would do that. Maybe it's because I live where summer temps are in the 110+ range...

Yes, I apologize.
Power steering pump always on drivers side.

Changed brackets only. I meant that since removal of A/C pump everything is on the drivers side of the engine.

So what caused your PS fluid to blow everywhere?
