I may have an opportunity to acquire a power bench seat assembly for my 71 442. In order to install it, if it's similar in design to the power bucket seat track, then it would be necessary to weld brackets to the floor. Is this true, and if they're not with the seat assembly are these brackets available anywhere? Thanks.
Like mark said, the power bench seat has a set of floor brackets unique to them only. I just looked in the OPGI catalog, page 33, part number G241487. $76.00.
Ok, I looked at the description of the brackets on the OPG catalog and they say bucket or bench and show a picture of the two brackets. Those look like the inside and outside brackets for the bucket seat. As there aren't any inboard brackets for the bench seat, what do they offer for the outboard passenger side bracket? You guys state the bench seat brackets are unique, so I need further clarification. Thanks.
Mark might be able to get some better pictures, but here's a couple views from what's in my 1971 Cutlass wagon. This is the drivers side rear location. It has two studs that a previous owner cut shorter for some reason. The bracket itself is about 12 inches long. John
Thanks for your help and efforts. I'm thinking no one reproduces the bench seat brackets and therefore the power seat set up is a no go without these brackets.
I think people taking them out of cars don't give a thought to the brackets and leave them behind.
Marxjunk I look forward to seeing clear pictures of these rare pieces.
Mark I'm hoping you can post pictures as I want to inform and show the guy selling the power seat tracks that they are worth a lot less without the brackets. Thanks.
Thanks Mark. Based on your photos and those from John and comments from Scott, it would confirm what I thought all along that the bench seat brackets are unique and different from the power bucket seat ones. This of course makes the purchase of the power bench seat tracks much less attractive. If anyone comes across a set of brackets left behind please pm me. Thanks for your help guys. Brian
very hard to get...nearly impossible unless ya just stumble on them...and the seat just wont sit right with out them, they are pretty goofy the way it works...
i parted 2 skylarks and they both had power bench..
let me look some more...i have another set...i need these for a GTO project but if i can find the other..i would let them go
Thanks, that's all one can hope for. I couldn't even find them in the GM parts catalog. I guess they weren't offered as a factory part, only used in the factory build.
I have looked at the OPGI brackets and some threads on various boards and I think I understand. The floor pans were set up for non power bench. Power bench got the
lower bracket in the picture x2 (might have been mirrored for passenger). Manual bucket got the upper bracket x2 (might have been mirrored for passenger). Power bucket got the lower bracket x1 for the driver, and the upper bracket x2 (might have been mirrored for passenger) but did not get the lower bracket for the passenger side
as the manual bucket outer track used the normal floor holes, and there were no passenger power buckets.
My recommendation, call OPGI, have that webpage open, and talk them through what you need.
I half thought that perhaps you may be able to buy two outside power bucket brackets or the mirror image as you say for the passenger side of the seat. Yes it would be worth a call to OPGI and get info from them.
Thanks for your efforts.
