Olds parking brakes

Is the parking brake pedal mechanism the same for the manual and automatic transmission, say 64-72?

This depends on the year and wheelbase, of course. In all cases, the rear cables (the ones that attach to the backing plates) are the same. The front cable (that goes to the pedal) differ based on crossmember location (two styles, TH400 and all others). The intermediate cable varies by both crossmember location and wheelbase.
