OEM part numbers
OEM part numbers
Forgive a stupid question. I'm getting ready to begin the teardown on a 67 Toronado. I have the following books:
1. Body by Fisher 1967 Service Manual
2. 1967 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual
3. Illustration Catalog Oldsmobile Models Thru 1975
4. Chassis and Body Parts Catalog Models Thru 1975
The last two seem to give just group numbers that refer to illustrations. What book do I need that will contain all OEM part numbers? I want to do this right and I know I'll have to chase difficult to find parts in this restoration. Looking for any help.
Thanks!

You seem to have the right manuals or maybe not? Don't understand how you cannot find the part numbers? The manuals you talk about are a two manual set MODELS THRU 1975, (1) CHASSIS and BODY ILLUSTRATION CATALOG, (2) CHASSIS and BODY PARTS CATALOG.
The Illustration manual is like the picture book with item numbers and lists the Group number of those items on adjacent page (sometimes it also lists actual part number). With the Group number you then go to the associated chapter of the parts manual and you'll find the actual part numbers.

But that catalog will only have the part numbers available at the time the catalog was dated.
I believe the 1975 catalog you have is dated 1983. Lots of '67 parts were dropped by then. Ideally you want a catalog as close to your year as possible.
Here is a '72 one, free of charge at Wild About Cars, where you find lots more about your Toronado!

Also, if a part number has been superceded, the catalog will only show the superceded part number, not the original one (unless you happen to have one of the cross reference addendums on superceded parts).
