Well I talked about how I bought a new tank from Amazon with next day delivery.
finally got around to taking it out of the box to get ready to paint. As I was cleaning it, I observed what you see in the pic. Man, this really stinks!
That is annoying, but, fortunately, in my experience at least, Amazon is excellent as far as returning items. Just go on the site and go through the return process, indicating the item was damaged as received. You can print a pre-paid UPS label, so all you have to do is box it back up, put the label on, and take it to a UPS drop-off point. They should allow you to get a replacement. A bit of a pain, yes, in terms of having to wait some more before you have a usable tank, but otherwise, a relatively painless and no-cost return process.

Same. I bought a pair of headlight assemblies for my DD 2010 CTS. One was effed up so I figured I'd change both. One of the new headlights had manufacturing defects that weren't apparent until it was installed & used. I contacted them about returning the one bad one (they were bought in a pair) for a partial refund. They took it back after it had been installed & used for a few days.
I received a piece of electronic gear from Amazon as a gift. I called to return it for a model with more power capacity. They told me to keep it and they'll just along the bigger one--and they did.
Yeah Amazon is great for returns. I made UPS pick it up because it was such a big box. But, unfortunately Amazon didn't have another one and issued a refund. On a brighter note, I found a cheaper one from AutoZone because of a holiday sale they were having.
I am dying to drive my new ride, but here in NJ the weather isnt too good this time of year. I also decided to replace the fuel and return line too, so everyrhing will be brand new.
Seems like the weld should be stronger. Shouldn't the weld should be stronger than the metal? Will a chinsey weld hold up the weight of a fuel nozzle? Good post.
To make matters worse... the second one I ordered from autozone came in wrong. The box was labeled correctly (GM34Q) but the tank inside was wrong. The tank even was stamped with with wrong part number (34R) besides me being able to tell visibly that it was wrong. So, I wait again. Good thing it's winter around here and I probably wouldn't be driving it anyway lol
It is a common place for them to crack though...
I had one crack there after about 5 years of service. But the only problem was I already had it sumped and painted very nicely so I wasn’t going to toss it and just get a new one. I could not find a shop that wanted to weld a used tank, SOOOOoooooooo...thank you JB Weld!!!!
That's a bummer. At least Amazon has easy returns and you noticed that it was the wrong tank from the auto parts store.
Lately I have been reluctant to order auto parts on Amazon or Rock Auto. The warranty on store bought parts is a BIG bonus and the price is usually comparable to RockAuto since they add so many shipping charges.

It's not a weld.....the filler necks are soldered in place. They are strong enough and that's how the originals were done. The "problem" is the way the tanks are shaped and accordingly packaged. Long filler neck sticks way out and they don't put these in a huge box and encloses everything. Typically shipped with the filler neck protruding out of the box that surrounds the tank body itself. Not a great combo once these things get in the hands of the shippers.
The one with the broken neck was shipped in a box that covered neck and all. The one that was shipped wrong had the fill neck sticking out of the box and not broke lol....just my luck

i used to have a radiator shop (retired) that would solder an old tank without fear,he would attach an exhaust hose to the tank from a running car and render it non-flammable
