Missing trunk key
Missing trunk key
So I just purchased another '64 98 from a member on the boards. However, there is no trunk key and the vaccuum release isn't working. I've called some locksmiths but nobody will come out to do anything car related (probably due to liabilities with possible theft?). They sent me to the GM dealer, but they won't do anything older than '95. Short of destroying the lock, does anybody have any suggestions/ideas on how to get it open?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

the only thing i know is try the tennis ball trick idk if it work but that the only thing i know of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOi8d4LOr_4 heres a video on it
Can you take the back seat out and reach through there with several long extensions and a socket taped together so they don't fall apart and take the lock assembly loose from the backside. Others on the site have done it that way.
Yeah that's my next step. Any idea what size the bolt is? I'm no small guy so getting over the gas tank to figure it out is gonna be tough. Also, I think it's going to take a lot of extensions... that's a hell of a trunk. Maybe I can get my wife to crawl in there? Ha! Good luck on that one...
I took my back seat out and couldn't reach far enough in, so I got the wife to squeeze in there....I have some humorous pictures of that, but there's no way they're getting posted!!
So not one locksmith would touch any lock on the exterior of the car, but I found one who would make a key for the glove box! I think he knew my intention since he asked "Don't you have a trunk key?" I had to reply "No, but there is a vaccuum trunk release in the glove box." Although it no longer functions, he didn't need to know that.
I was hoping on some specific pieces to be in there. The car was missing the trim strip from the hood, fender skirts, rear quarter rocker panel trim, and the "Ninety Eight" emblem from the trunk lid.
I got home after picking up the lock today (took the guy a week to pick it and make a key) and opened up the trunk and found...

Everything I wanted and then some! Bonus: Full set of shop manuals. The seem to have gotten wet at some point, but they still open fine. So all in all this turned out to be a good thing. A lot of not-cheap parts were in here. Success! Thanks for the glove box tip Coldwar

I did soooo many keys @ Nickey Parts, I could read them w/o the book!!!!!!!!
Cut them with that old 'squeeze cutter', too!!
Guess I'll call my locksmith friend and see if that cutter and blanks are still available.
Also used to 're-code' locks, with those little 'U' shaped pieces, etc. - I'll check into that ,too!
Maybe become Rick the Keyman!! Sounds like enough people could use that service already!!
