You can use any stock or hp coil with it, you'll need to use the resistance wire or a ballast resistor.

I think the real question should be what points are best to use in a dual point distributor.

Thanks to you both for your input, it turns out however that the coil was fine. I wasn’t getting secondary resistance probably due to me pulling the wire. It wasn’t until I bench tested it that I realized it was good.

I’ll leave an update soon, thanks again for the information, it may be helpful whether or not it helps to resolve my current problem.

Hello to all, sadly I,m unable to give an update because I’m at a lost as to why my car will no longer start. It ran fine after tuning it up. I added seafoam and this is the end result. I was told by seafoam headquarters to have a technician look at it to determine what is wrong. Of course I’m open to any ideas. Thanks I assumed it was the coil based on other people experiencing similar issues after using seafoam. Car starts and sputters, eventually shutting down.

I don't see any correlation between Seafoam and the coil.

Give us more information on how you did the Seafoam treatment (as in a lot more information) and we may be able to help figure this out.

I think these instructions will work for your distributor. Did you set the individual and total dwell correctly? The condensers on these go out pretty easily. Are you getting spark and at the right time?

Thanks, I’m embarrassed about the fact that I may have not followed lthe directions precisely I sprayed the top engine cleaner into the carburetor. I probably didn’t rev the engine high enough. As I was spraying the engine sputtered out and would not start back up. I used the treatment before in the same manner with good results. However, admittedly I did not see nearly the amount of burn off from the exhaust as before. I pulled the plugs twice, the first time I did so they were extremely carbon fouled, the second time they were fouled as well, but not quite as bad. New carb, plugs, wires cap and rotor. Fuel pressure tested seemed fine. The only thing I didn’t change were the points, which I planned to do next. But as stated, it was running good before using the seafoam.

I too saw no correlation between the coil and seafoam, I just happened to come across at least 3 people on another forum who experienced similar circumstances with seafoam and it came back to it being the coil

Thank you for asking , unfortunately I did not set the dwell, I only used a vacuum gauge, but again I have to emphasize that the car was running good, not perfect but good before seafoam.
I haven’t tested for spark at the right time either, perhaps you can enlighten me as to how to do so.

Lastly, yes you’re correct about the instructions I have seen them, it seems that it addresses distributor points adjustment as opposed to replacement. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I only summarily read the instructions. Thanks I’ll look again if so. I did see instructions on point settings somewhere but neglected to save the page. if you or anyone here knows where to locate it, I would appreciate it I may have gotten it here just haven’t been able to track it down.

The instructions are in the link in my post. Chances are if it were running prior to your seafoam application, the spark plugs are well fouled.

Makes the most sense..,I have changed them 3 times though, should I continue to try new ones until it runs ? Could it be it will take multiple changes until it clears itself out. After putting in the last set it started up and would surge up and down.eventually sputtering out Thanks again
