if anyone can help with a block #
Just to clarify a little, casting number 395558 2 was used on every Olds 350 block cast from 1968-1976, so it won't tell you anything other than displacement. The #8 heads were used for the 1973-1976 model years, but obviously those may or may not be original to the block. If the motor looks like it's never been apart and the intake has an EGR valve, it's almost certainly a 73-76 motor. If you care, check the VIN derivative stamp on the driver's side of the block, below the #1 spark plug. The second digit of the VIN derivative will be the model year the block was made.
You should check the tech section here, and get a factory manual. They can be had cheap on eBay if you watch for them.
Since your motor seems to be a '73 to '76, that's be a good range of years to choose from, though the basic engine info is the same for many years. I got my '73 manual for $8.
You should also join WildAboutCars, where you can download manuals until you buy one.
