Hurst Dual Gate 2 neutral safety switch (68/69 Cutlass)

Need some help figuring out the NSS when going from a column shifter to a floor shifter (Specifically to a Hurst Dual Gate 2 aftermarket shifter made in the 70s). Based on my research, 68/69 has the NSS mounted on the side of the shifter as shown below.

The 70 model has the NSS that was connected to the brackets and had pivoting rods/arms shown below (pic stolen from another members thread)

Stock column NSS plugs

My after market Dual Gate 2 made by Hurst originally came with a button style NSS that mounts with a small bracket on the floor of the shifter. I am wondering if I am able to use this style of switch considering it has only 2 total prongs. Any advice on how to go about this will help.

the two purple wire are for the neutral safety switch, the other connector is for the reverse lights.
didn't the shifter come with a switch for the reverse lights?

That is a 1970 setup. The 1971 and 1972 cars used the column mounted NSS and the backdrive linkage actuated it.

Not in this kit. This is a Dual Gate 2 they made as an aftermarket product. It is the same design as the 70s model that came with the Hurst olds.

If I use the switch that came with shifter, I still need to figure out how to reverse lights to work.

Here is the instructions but there is no mention of the reverse lights https://www.shifterdoc.com/2920007_Install.PDF

My mistake. I am still learning about the different versions as I restore and install mine. Thanks for the info.

Does that push button switch even allow you to start in NEUTRAL, or only in PARK? The problem here is that the factory NSS/backup switch has a slider that makes contact for the purple wires in both PARK and NEUTRAL and also makes contact across the terminals for the green wires in REVERSE. No push button switch will do that. Seems like a half-fast arrangement. Your options are to install a separate toggle switch for the reverse lights or figure out how to adapt a real NSS/backup switch the way the factory installations did. Interesting that the earlier aftermarket dual gates like the ones used in the 68-69 H/O did use a factory style NSS for exactly this reason.

Thanks Joe. I think it only engages when in park. The only oem style NSS I have found are around $100.
