Help with power trunk release for 68 442

Hi guy's, I have a 68 442 conv and it came with a power trunk release via vacuum. Well they take power from the engine and frankly never work rite so I decided to convert to the electric type. I purchased a 67 type but it doesn't fit in the opening do to the 1 1/4" diameter size of the striker (I thought it would just be a "bolt on application" but it's calling for 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" opening which I would love to skip if at all possible. Is there another solution such as a different year striker that may fit without modifications but still be as reliable. Any help or pictures would be great.

Klassickeyless makes an electric conversion for your car. It's pricey though, $149. I added an electric set up for my 76 which required some minor trimming to the inside of my trunk lid.

An electric release from any '70-'72 'A' body will work.

That has not been my experience.
They worked when they left the factory.
They are slow acting but if your vacuum lines are intact it should be fine.

I resolved the situation by installing an electric switch and electric release off of a 68 Buick Skylark GS (I had to cut a very small portion of sheet metal off of the trunk so that the release would fit using GM factory standards) then I used brand new wiring from inline from a 70 442. It truly works great, I don't have to worry about robbing the engine vacuum or the speed of the release......it's instant gratification and I truly love it. Thanks for all your help and comments.
