HEI dissy

I have got a HEI distributor which I took out of my chevy,is it possible with a bit of machining to fit it to my 59 olds with the 371 eng.
Also the 371 has the standard 2 bl carby is is possible to fit a 4bl carb and what is involved in fitting.

Cheers Noel

The Chebby dizzy turns opposite to Olds...and therefore won't work the windings in the pickup coil are wound opposite and so you must use an Olds p/u coil...

The direction of rotation is irrelevant, as the pickup coils swap easily. Your best bet is to get cut up the HEI distributor and the original Olds distributor, mate the two housings, and weld them together. The Chevy distributor shaft is longer, so it's easy to cut it down to fit. Mate the Olds drive gear, and you're done.

Or, get a Pertronix...

you can do all that stuff Joe says above, or you can just call these guys.

http://www.gearheadworld.com/

I just bought an HEI Dizzy, new, billet, with rotor, cap, coil for $75 shipped. They recently ran and ad in one of the street scene magazines for HEIs @ $75. When I called they honored the price even for olds.

FWIW, I tried my damnest to find a petronix for my stock dizzy and could only find dizzy's already fitted with the petronix. I couldn't find just the kit to put on my stock diz. And all the petronix kits I could find were over $150.

Summit sells the same dizzy for over $150. You can see it in this pic.

I seriously doubt that Summit sells anything for a 371.

And yet, STILL no distributor for a 371...

I'll modify my prior statement. I seriously doubt that Summit sells anything for a 371 - THAT DOESN'T ALSO FIT A CHEVY.

Heres an easier answer.. and I have tried this on a'59. No stock HEI will fit - because the HEI housing hits the back of the intake manifold. ( 4bbl intake ) And its pretty tight as far as the firewall is concerned in the back. Stick with an electronic conversion for less headaches

I use the same Pertronix in my '57 371 as I do in my '68 400 and the kids '68 350...
