Fisher Cowl Tag Decoding
Fisher Cowl Tag Decoding
I can get a camera in there to take a pic and its been painted so many times it's hard to read in the first place. I believe I have all the correct digits. If someone could please decipher this for me? I've always wondered.

Two sources that I have indicate that two letters, (BB for example) are required for the top color, one of them indicates that a single letter, as you have listed indicates the paint stripe color. O4C=build date 4th month (April) C=3rd week. final numbers were used for in plant, unknown to the rest of us.

Hey, not unknown to *all* of the rest of us. I think he forgot to add some letters before the 205473 which would identify the plant. But it otherwise looks like it is a Fremont car, in which case the 166277 630069 numbers are Manifest Sequence numbers used in Fremont. These numbers are also found on the Build Sheets there. But they still don't really tell you anything meaningful.
I've owned about a dozen '72s - none have ever had two letters for the top color
on the cowl tag. (It would have a two digit number in that position if it is a
painted top, e.g. 26 26). In this case, B is a black vinyl top. Stripe color is
not indicated on the cowl tag for '70-'72 cars.

According to my VIN it did come from CA with a 350 in it. (I don't have the VIN on me right now) I do know that with a 350/350 . So my car came with a vinyl top ? I will try and get a pic with my phone its thinner then my camera. By the time I bought it, it has a 455/400
I haven't looked at the numbers for 1972, but I bet they aren't too different. I haven't looked at how the numbers might have differed for Cutlasses vs. 442s either.
Now you guys have me almost wanting to put a top back on it! Just out of curiosity at this point, does anyone make the trim pieces for the quarters? I'd think that's all you would need besides the vinyl right?
