Engine number

Hi, I just got a real nice 59 dynamic 88 coupe.it has a 371 cu/in engine in it I would like to know the following.

1, Where on the motor is the engine #

2, Will a J2 manifold and carbs fit the 371 engine

3, How can I tell if it has the standard engine or the Super 88
engine in it

4, In the past I have always bought parts of Fusicks is there a
better place to buy Oldsmobile parts
Thanks for any help cheers Noel

To identify the size, check the top of the extended bell housing in back of the engine.. if you see a 4 at the end of a number sequence, its a 371 - if you see a 4 1/8 its a 394.. 371 were gold and 394 were greenish in color.. Also on the left cylinder head, if it stamped on a pad with a C its a 371... a D is a 394. You cannot fit a '57-'58 manifold on the 'new' 371 of that year - its the first year of a 'tall deck' engine block as opposed to a short deck. Fusick has alot of quality parts, but the mechanical parts they have are overpriced and can be found cheaper elsewhere
