Anyone use the doorman 603-001 coolant recovery tank? My car (1970 Cutlass 455) does not have any tank at all currently. I was considering using this one

At under $20, it will work fine as long as you have a radiator cap that allows coolant to go back and forth to the radiator.

I bought one - works great on my 1969 ...
Had to make 2 mounting tabs for a fender mount
look like it belongs there +-
I left room to access my headlight plug ins

 

Here is another option (although, more expensive). I bought an aluminum overflow tank for a 2003 Mini Cooper and bolted it next to the emissions canister behind the headlight buckets on the passenger side. They cost around $50 on eBay and Amazon. I liked that it bolted to the core support (not the fender) and it was tucked away under the fender. I had to modify it just a bit; I cut off the hose barb on the bottom of the tank and cut threads for a 1/4"NPT-to-5/16" hose barb elbow to connect to the radiator filler neck.

Or wander into a Treasure Yard, and get one from a scrap vehicle. There's a limitless variety of shapes and sizes and mounting arrangements.

1. Don't get one from a Ford, because they're poorly designed.
2. You need the recovery-type radiator cap to go with the tank.

Thousands of years ago, you'd buy a "kit" that had a plastic bottle, a foot-and-a-half of the cheapest hose on Earth, and a big rubber washer (gasket) that you'd slip into your existing rad cap. About $6, and it'd come with two sheet-metal screws to attach the bottle to your fender. They wouldn't work properly until you put a real piece of hose between rad and bottle, because the included hose would kink.

 

I got one from Napa, it was under $10. I was limited to where I could put it since I added a repop OAI setup. It works fine just had to drill a couple of holes in the core support & make a lower bracket.
