Correct Steering Column Cover_1968 Olds Cutlass S

I am replacing the lower steering column cover and have purchased the SCC682 item from Fusick (see first photo). However, when I went to install it, the cover is different than what is in my car. So I went into the Assembly Manual and saw that the one I purchased looks completely different than the one I took out of my car and the one they show in the manual which is in the second photo. Has anyone else purchased this item from Fusick for their 1968 Olds. I can't imagine that they would still be selling a part if it is not correct for the application. Or is the one in my car and the Assembly manual not correct?

I'm not a 1968 expert, but I'd bet the Chassis Service Manual is correct and Fusick goofed.

The one you have is '68 only. Unfortunately a lot of the repo parts get grouped into the '68-'72 category. The parts place also shows the same one Fusick has. I have an Ames(GTO) catalog & they don't list one for '68 at all. They show 64-67 & 69-72. I have a Nov 67 Lansing built 442 & the carpet guard that's in mine looks just like the one in the service manual pic. Maybe later '68s got the newer, longer one???

I might have a '68 version if you can stand by for a day or two while I check.

Doesn't look like the right one to me! I've run into this with a few other things as well. For the most part, though, Fusick is good. I'm sure they will take the cover back as a return, and possibly correct their catalog as well!

John, you were right. Fusick has the wrong part for 1968. Rob, I've checked all of the places you checked and none of them carry a part for 1968. And Randy you were right, Steve said to send it back and he will give me a credit to use on my next order. My column cover has a crack right down the middle which I have used a Loctite plastic gel super glue to repair, but if I can find a used on that is in good condition it would be nice to have one that isn't cracked, even though you can't see it without getting on the floor.

And thanks Scott for offering to check to see if you have one for 1968.

I believe I located a nice one today, my only one like this. Not sure how/if Photobucket will work anymore so I'd rather text pictures to you? Text me with "toe kick" at 317-727-7041. $40.00 shipped and I'm pretty certain you won't be disappointed.
