I have seen clutch and brake pedal bushings advertised but when i look on my 68 442 i don't see any. My clutch pedal always makes a "spring" noise which i am trying to eliminate. The real question is did my car originally come with bushing on the clutch and brake pedals?
Yes, there are 4 split nylon bushings for the clutch & brake pedal(2 for each) you have to take the through bolt out that holds the pedals to get to them. What kind of shape is your Z-bar in??/ They wear out over time, the holes that the rods go through get all worn out & you'll get a lot of slop. 68-70 had a rubber/metal bushing on upper z-bar that usually is toast on cars as old as ours. The parts place sells them now (Pt # MT3670Z, $14) or I used the solid metal one for '69-'71 that Inline sells. It's not as thick as the rubber one so you'll have use washers or re-drill the hole in the clutch rod for the retaining clip. My clutch pedal also has a nylon bushing inside the car( I used the smaller solid metal replacement for '72, that Inline also sells. The 2 are on the page from their catalog I put up. I'm not sure if that's original to '68 as I replaced my clutch pedal with one from a '70 so I could use the clutch safety switch that came out in '69. If it's never been done I'd order the Z-bar bushing rebuild kit also to make sure everythings tight.
Rob, that is truly great information. I meant the bushings inside the car but i will check the Z bar bushings as well. I never buy from the parts place because it's usually China 19 quality and i prefer the metal one's from Inline which as far better quality and made in the USA. Nice engine compartment, i would love to have the passenger side spark plug bracket so that i can replace it by hand (i found the driver side one). I usually take it apart and then order what i need. I already did the upper clutch bushing. Great detail in your assessment. Rob, thank you very much. Louis.
When i first bought the car the Z bar frame bracket broke in half (that should have been the time to take everything apart). They where other issue's so i let it slide.
