carb code
I've heard of that two-letter series referred to as a "broadcast code". What it means, I don't know. For my '68 and '69 4-4-2s, that code is "RJ". I've noticed that service replacement carburetors do not have a "broadcast code" and that the Julian date on a service replacement carburetor is always after the production year. This probably doesn't say anything more than you already know but maybe it will "prime the pump" for other answers!

This code is off my 8255 ram rod carb, with all this re-stamping coming to light I checked it out and of course seems like a re-stamp .

The Broadcast Code basically refers to what bin the part was in at that post on the assembly line, so that the guy on the line could pull the right part out of it and install it onto the car.
As cars went down the line, there was a wide variety of possible springs, shocks, air cleaners, carburetors, dashboard instruments, etc that could be installed, and it was important that the right ones go into the right cars, so the assembly line workers referred to the Broadcast Sheet for the Broadcast Codes and installed the part with the corresponding two or three character code.
The Broadcast Codes of the carburetors are listed in the Assembly Manuals.
