I am about to fly to Michigan for the next round of testing. Actually pretty excited to test the upcoming combinations. I wanted to run a 1970 W-30/42 automatic camshaft. However I doubt I have one. A member here has a camshaft with a single red or orange stripe between the 4th adn 5th lobes. Does anyone know what camshaft this is?
Jerry, here's the 1970 cam ID info. 400165 should have two white stripes. In any case, I'd go by the notches and chamfers in the end of the cam, as shown on the chart.
Ok so let me ask you this question, since you were the one that suggested we run an auto camshaft, and I agree. Is this one adequate or do I keep looking for the correct one?
Jerry, the three chamfers and those notches look like a match for 393964, which is 1966-67 400 motor with AT and 1967 330 with MT. Also 425 motors except Starfire. Should be 278/282 with 52 deg overlap and 0.430/0.432 lift. Unfortunately 393964 has green stripes. 402486 is the only Olds cam I can find with three chamfers and orange stripes. I have found indications that the notches on the front might have varied from year-to-year (1972, for example, only shows one notch on that cam, but still the three chamfers and orange stripes).
