1970 red w30 on Bringatrailer

Red, automatic 7o w30 on BAT. No definitive info on it being a true car yet, but several asking for the verification. Beautiful car for sure.

Beautiful paint..a couple things that are a pet peeve..442 fender emblems crooked, after all that work why put them on crooked? The replacement seat covers, none of the buttons counter sink like they should.. looks like a nice car, engine parts missing or incorrect parts etc. I wouldn’t call it a restored car certainly not to any high level. But a very nice car, yet to be determined if they have any documentation to prove pedigree. . my guess is they don’t or they would’ve listed it. . Be interesting to see what the experts say. I keep learning things about about these cars, but I’m certainly no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

It's a peeve of mine too, along with the poorly applied arch striping. And the emblem placement on this one is rather nasty. It could have been a lot better.

But I will say this. Have fun getting those emblem holes picture perfect like the factory. Some are better at it than others, obviously, but I had to redo my 71's fender numbers eons ago before any commercial templates were available. Had to make my own. It is very tough to get them correct. Factory holes were tight so the emblems were forced into their positions so proper alignment was rather simple. Template holes on NOS fenders, whether hand made like mine or vendor supplied, aren't always easy.

Why advertise a Rally Pack when those are disconnected for aftermarket gauges?

No real reason the emblems should be crooked if it is original W-30 fender. Makes you wonder ??????

Looking at the pics, those are 1970 flat ridge fenders. Very well could be a w30, hard to say. Watching the convo on BAT, it doesn’t appear he has the holy grail broadcast card or dealer invoice. Obviously the hurst emblem in the glove box was added.. looks like a very nice car, just not verified 100%

It's verified 0%. There's no data even on the VIN on the block or the transmission. Right now, we know it is a 442 and not a clone by its vin, but, we have no data on numbers matching or w-30.

a dealer just sent the owner a diagram of where to look as the guy is trying to post pictures. He’s just getting it wrong. It does have the OG 70 transmission tag. We just got a verify now if the derivative on the transmission matches the car. It’s got potential to be a possible W30 for sure, however, without the correct verification, that can never be truly proven obviously.

I did not remember they got a special th400. I wonder why, considering they're no more power than a normal 442 in automatic. So, yes, you're right, if that's the special trans and vin matched, I would accept that as numbers proof.

I think you meant to write OW. OG would have been regular TH400.

OG TH400 points to garden variety 4-4-2. As noted, W-30s got OW.

The OW transmission has higher shift points under acceleration than the OG in order to properly match the power curve of the W-30 engine. The OW also allows downshifts to first gear at a higher speed than the OG will allow.

Instrument cluster is fine.....tach and gauges (oil and water) were OPTIONAL.

Alt is not correct open face style. Very typical for the originals to have been traded in as a core if the alt needed replacement (from an auto parts store).......remember, the VAST majority of owners of these didn't have a crystal ball when they owned the cars. Things broke and wore out and got replaced and not many folks thought the parts would be desirable or sought after decades later.

Overflow bottle is also aftermarket and is of no real objection. When overflows came in in 72 as a dealer accessory, the washer bottle was moved to the other side.

I watched the auction. So many stupid questions. I believe the seller was sincere. He answered everything that was asked to the best of his ability and knowledge. He disclosed equipment that didn't operate. He gets ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ for his patience. To subject yourself to that type of experience is at best trying.
