Cam installation tools
Cam installation tools
After ordering a couple on sets, i still haven't found a cam bearing installation set that has the correct billits for a small block olds. Anyone know who makes a set without tearing up the bankbook?
Problem is brake lathe won't accomidate. Don't want to wait 3-4 months for machine shop. Most sets are for chevvies. Ferds or mopars. Thinking about using rubber freeze pulgs along with bearing races as guides.but cam bearings are getting hard to find, so it's a long shot.
I have never used anything but the good old fashioned K-line tool with the expandable arbors with o-rings on them. They work on virtually anything. Mine is probably 40 years old.
I bought one of the BHJ tools that uses a big screw to pull the bearings in but to be honest with you it is more of a pain than it is worth. I bought it to do the late model Hemi bearings which are hard to do with the old type tool but that is about all I use it for.

I used to have a k-line(bought it in early 70's) but buddy had it when he passed on. Haven't been able to find another one. That is the thought behind trying rubber freeze plugs with bearing races, which is not working out.
