Brit in need of pully and belt help!

So i am guessing this may of been gone through before... but who is good/knowledgeable with pulleys and belts, because im getting desparate.....

Ok.....story goes.....
My 67 442 ac and power steering car, now has a 67 425 motor in it (out to 431). I removed the defunct ac pump and bracket.
It freys and throws the alternator belt off. But the power steering belt seems to stay put. When i imported it from the USA to England, it already had a new looking water pump fitted part number ph-280. And water pump pulley part number 587260.
The height of the water pump from backing plate to upper part of the hub flange is about 5.1"

I know there are a few variations of pumps and pulleys for these, but its difficult to A. Find solid data on what fits what and B. Locating the right pulleys or water pump first time as there are no parts over here and shipping from the States is usually more than the parts and returns are a pita to say the least!

I was hoping some one might be able to shed some light on it for me?

Pics included.
Thanks in advance.
Dan.

Nice looking car, and the 5.1" pump is correct for your application (yes, even with A/C). Here are the factory pulley numbers, and yes, they are the same for teh 400 and 425.

I think the key is to have a matched set. There are pulleys that are off by just a slight amount, but that's enough to cause the problems your having. The crankshaft pulley will also have a six digit number, and both the crank and water pump should also have a two letter code. Can you find the crank number and does it match one of the numbers shown on the diagram Joe posted? Several of us have extra pulleys and once its determined what you need I'm sure we can come up with the right one.

BITCHEN' CAR!!! The alternator appears to be the culprit. Is it possible to shim the alternator pulley forward to correct the alignment and still have enough threads for proper nut retention?

That reminded me many years ago (back in the 80s) I had a rebuilt alternator with the pulley slightly off and it would cause the belt to roll over at higher RPM. I found the pulley was installed with a big washer on the wrong side, and simply moving the washer to the opposite side cured the problem.

X2 What he said. With the cast brackets, it is hard to do anything else

It is a great looking car! I looked but couldn't really figure it out. But now that Shiftbyear and Kenneth mentioned the pulley, I'm looking at it again. Maybe you just need a new or different alt pulley.

Am i right when it says 6 1/2" on water pump pulley that means the water pump height?
If that is correct, im guessing i have the wrong water pump as mines the 5.1" ph-280
I have no idea what that drawing is from, but 65 is not the same as 67.
Your accessory brackets have the alternator and PS pump in the positions for A/C.
Scroll up and read post number 2 again, especially the part about the correct water pump length is 5.1"
The illustration in Post #2 is from the factory parts book and is specifically for big block motors with the 1967 F85 accessory brackets.
Water pump pulley should be 391114
Crank pulley should be 389645
PS pump pulley should be 384678

So i guess i have wrong pulleys for my car then....apart from power steering.

Joe's probably right about the pulleys, and those are really unusual diagrams you have of the belts (and pulleys). Alternator pulleys I know something about, and I'm real familiar with that number 1949355, because I've sold a lot of NOS ones. I know that pulley has only a "5" stamped on it, if it's there it's on the face and tiny. I'm 99.99% sure your alt pulley is a universal aftermarket pulley. At this point, knowing you have issues with others, I wouldn't worry about the alt pulley. I only mentioned it because if the others were correct then I thought it might be the issue.

Also, i have tried to find the correct belts as UK belts are not the same width or have same V shape. But the numbers don't really bring much up.
can anyone tell me what a modern equivalent belt part# should be, or sizes?
i think i need alternator belt 3921934 and power steering belt 386066?

Cheers 👍 Dan.
