Seeking information on cleaning the EGR, as well as the ports. Should I use Carb Cleaner or Throttle Body Cleaner for the ports ? Will any carbon residue going into the manifold disrupt any sensors by using the above products ? Or, would a coat hanger suffice in clearing any sediment? No codes are present on the OBD 1. I would just like to clean, rather than replace. All replies are appreciated.

The only way I would do it is with the manifold off the engine. They get carboned up and are a complete mess. If you do decide to try it use a shop vac the entire time to keep the crap from going into the manifold.
I have cleaned them before by using a piece of bicycle brake cable in a cordless drill. Chuck the cable in the drill and run it in the reverse direction of the twist in the cable. This make the cable strands spread apart and scrape the walls of the egr port. Agree you should do this with the manifold off but it can be done on. When your done Make sure and start the engine with the egr valve off to blow out any chunks of carbon the could get stuck in the egr valve. You will have to give it some throttle to get it started as thr open intake port is a massive vacuum leak.

Can I spray carb cleaner into the ports and does revving the engine with egr off throw any codes? By the way, if I spray carb cleaner into the ports would any carbon or particles stay inside the manifold; causing any problem? Thanks.
Personally I would not do anything with the manifold on the engine. Unless it is totally blocked, there is nothing wrong as it is.

I am speaking of the two ports in your pic If they are not totally blocked, you do not have a problem.
To answer your code question. it might throw a lean code. but you are only running the engine for maybe 10 to 20 seconds so probably not.
as far as cleaning it on the engine, there is a possibility that a large chunk of carbon sticks a valve open and the piston tags it. If you open the valve at idle with a vacuum pump or the vacuum hose from the air cleaner and the idle drops and it runs rough it is probably fine. I would only worry about cleaning it if you have carbon chunks getting stuck in the egr valve and holding it open.

Thanks very much. The cars running tops, just would like to remove the EGR, clean it and check the ports. It's been a while since I placed a new EGR in. Always believe in preventative maintenance. I'll take your word for it though. Replacing the fuel filter (check valve), spring, and nylon washer for good measure.

I did the EGR port cleaning on my 307. As I recall, I used a shop vac to suck a string though the passage way. I think I then attached the string to a wire and pulled that through. Then I think I soldered the wire to a small diameter aircraft cable like the bike brake cable that was suggested and just worked it back and forth. Then use the shop vac to suck out any debris. It would be crazy to remove the manifold. I don't remember any more details, but you get the idea........... I also remember putting a bore scope in the hole for a good look.
