Does anyone know of a good Adhesive to re-attach the Yellow Plastic Side Marker Lens to the Cast Chromed Side Marker Housing? The front portion of the Lens is "glued down" pretty well, but I am afraid it will someday fall off going down the road............ I can certainly just pick some kind of "goo," but I'd really like to use the "correct" adhesive.
You will need to use just a little heat from a heat gun to get it the rest of the way out. I don't know what is correct but I used 3m emblem adhesive. Be sure you seal it all the way around or it will allow water inside
Agree ^ 3M emblem adhesive directions caution to avoid getting on paint or other surfaces. So be sure to mask off the plastic lens and chrome surround. The adhesive can be used for emblems on the exterior body so water (rain, car wash) should not affect its adhering.
3M Emblem Adhesive is a permanent solution according to the label. Going forward if there would be the need for lens replacement this type bond could create an issue when attempting to remove the lens.
I have used 3M Black Strip Caulk 08578 rolled into small strands with success. First of all, ensure the trough the lens fits into is clean and free of all previous bonding material. When I cleaned my side lights the adhesive was still relatively soft and easy to remove after all these years using a dull paring knife.
Once the housing is clean it will accept the lens very nicely (always pre-fit prior to using the caulk) and the strip calk creates a bond that is water and wind resistant, as well as , allows for easy lens removal down the road.
You are welcome and I trust you find success with my suggestion.
Also notice from your original photo how your lens looks anemic because there is a lack of contrast between the amber lens and the chrome housing. Compare that to the photo I posted using the black caulk and notice how the calk throws a black outline around the lens which provides the needed distinction for the amber lens to stand out and apart from the chrome housing.
