AC vacuum reservoir

Looking for vacuum leaks, as car is not idling as it should, I removed the vacuum hose going to the AC vacuum reservoir on the firewall and I found that when you suck on that hose there is a leak in the reservoir, the ball makes a funny screeching noise when you suck on it and it does not hold vacuum. I am assuming that that ball should not leak at all. Can you temporarily bypass that ball and just connect the vacuum line coming from the engine directly to the hose coming from AC unit until I can get one?

Kept looking at this and reservoir is fine, leak is inside the car... Strange thing is vents are still working.

Yes, you can do that but you will lose vacuum when accelerating. This will make the diverter default to floor vents until you let off the throttle. It may be annoying but it will work until you can get the ball reservoir replaced / repaired.
