84 88 AC orifice

My 84 88 coupe was retrofitted to 134before i bought it . Was low on charge. Came with after market compressor and acumulator. Found no l leak so charged it . Was ice cold on the 21 power tour. And up to the end of 24 summer. So it obviously has an orfice. Leak check this time found seapage at bottom of compressor . Replaced it and the accumulator. The orfice is not in the line going in to the evaporator. Where is it? this is an olds 307

First, make sure to look again. It's beyond me how the system could even work correctly without an orifice. Follow the hard line from the condenser back to the evaporator. The fitting behind the accumulator going into the evaporator should house the orifice tube. You may have to look up inside the evaporator side tube to see the orifice tube. The short end (outlet) should be toward the evaporator.

Video of an orifice replacement on an 84 Monte SS, which is basically the same setup back there as your 88.

GM orifices usually have a little arrow showing you the direction of flow TO the evaporator. Not sure if the aftermarkets do or not.

The orfice is not int the line going to the accumulator like me other 84. There is no crimp in that line, either to hold one in place. Wierd. We deceided that it blow cold before, it would blow cold again. Compressor was only changed for leaking . Heated Shop was 70 degrees ac was blowing 41degrees ou the vents.

There's got to be a restriction somewhere or you likely wouldn't be cooling anything.

R4 compressors usually leak at the shell o-rings. Change those out and you'll get longer service life. Easier said than done, but that's a common leak on those compressors.
