70 battery tray differences

What is the difference between a big block 70 442 battery tray and small block? Not sure if mine is correct.

The 1970 BBO cars used the larger R71 battery, vs the R59 used on SBO cars. That's why the battery tray is larger. This is also why BBO A-body cars had the washer tank moved to the passenger side, to make room for the larger battery.

Thanks, that makes sense. Did the W31’s use the smaller battery?

Thanks to Gary for catching me on this. While the R59 battery was standard equipment with the SBO, the larger R71 battery WAS an available option with the SBO under RPO T60. The early edition of the SPECS booklet doesn't show this, but later updated to the available options include it. And note that it's shown as "not available with 455" because the R71 was already standard with the 455.

That’s good information, could be a way to spot fake paperwork if a 455 car has the option it.
