70 442 Air Conditioning System Installation
I'm looking at a 70 442 convertible that came without factory air conditioning. Does anyone know where I can get an indash air conditioning system installed. I want to also install the Oldsmobile factory controls. My objective is when completed the system looks like it was installed from the factory. I live up north and will consider shipping the car to Florida or a climate where this might be more available than a northern state where they may lack the experience. Thank you

Vintage Air makes a custom in-dash kit for your car. They use their own controls in the factory location that look like they belong but are not "factory". Under hood is definitely not factory and way more compact than the stock evaporator, compressor, etc. DIY or any competent local shop can install. Make sure your radiator / cooling system is up to the task but pretty sure all 442's came with HD cooling.

Retrofitting a full factory system is not easy on a non-AC car even if you have a complete donor. Aside from installing all the obvious stuff, alternator is on the other side and the firewall cutout is different.
Keep it as-is if the car is a mostly original real 442, especially since you live up north, Consider VA if the car is a clone, already modified or you just have to have AC no matter what.

I have done two AC changeovers on non-AC cars both 70-72 cars. As long as you get all the pieces it really is not that bad. Take the right fender off and pull the dash and change it all. There is a very small spot on the firewall that will have to be covered about 1 square inch or weld in the piece from an AC car takes care of it. I have done it both ways. When done, it is nice and hard to tell.
Vintage air is a nice looking system does not look factory but is nice.
