67 442 Tilt Horn part needed

I have a 67 442 with a tilt column and the Delux steering wheel. I need the horn part that connects the horn buttons to the cancelling cam. The part # is 395741, but my local GM dealer says no dice on the locater. The problem with mine is the rubber grommet that goie into the cam is mushy and distorted, therefore not holding the plunger against the horn ring. It is normally a press ft. If anyone know a fix, I would appreciate it.

Is it possible to find an O-ring of the right diameter that you can roll up over the spring to replace the original rubber retainer?

I'm not familiar with that exact setup, but I know what you're talking about. I know it's Mickey Mouse, but you could just wrap that small part that pushes in with duct tape and jam it in. I've done that on beaters before. Second thought is shrink tubing. Put a piece of shrink tubing on it (just the small interference fit part). Final thought is my "go to" fix anything stuff. It's called "Mr Fix It", I think. It's like very thin strips of metal that have like a rasp surface. It's very thin, you can cut it with scissors. So you could cut a small strip like 1/8" x 1/4". You stick it in and jam the fitting in. The best thing about that is you could leave a little tail out to pull it out if needed. I've used that stuff to fix a wazillion things like stripped holes in door panels, etc. It used to be like 2.00 and sold everywhere. I think HD and places like that still have it. These are all crude fixes, so I'm not sure if you want to do that. It's this stuff...everybody should have this in their toolbox. It comes in different widths.

Hey 425HP409, If you are still in need of a solution... Chuck Schuster, Parts Finders in Jackson, Wisconsin, is rebuilding the tilt column in my 66' 442 as we speak. Great guy... has rebuilt 1000's of steering columns & knows his stuff & might have a solution for you are the part you are looking for.. good luck..
