Trying to confirm factory float level on my 67, 442 with 7027157 quadrajet. I cant find it in the 67 Chassis Service Manual. Best i can find for 67, 400ci is (1/4" Float level setting) in the carb kit data table. Can anyone confirm or correct? Would appreciate any help i can get as im about to put it back together. Not a 67 442, but I go with 5/16’s for my 455’s in my ‘66’s with the later 170-series 800 CFM carbs.

Some carbs use 9/32”. I’ve never really had problems with the float, needle&seat, but only after I figured out the needle isn’t supposed to be hooked into the float hole, just hanging off the top…

If you look online, you’ll find a diagram or 2 about exactly how to set the float. The measurement point matters.

The wrong measurement point can with your depth gauge can easily lead you to be rich or lean. I keep a picture in my phone of exactly where to place the depth gauge fore/aft on the float.

Thanks for the info sir. I learned the hard way back in the day about the how the needle hangs off the float tab, lol. I am also familiar with where to pull the measurement. I came across 9/32 for some other olds applications but for some reason the C.S.M. doesn't list the 4MV specs. Might be that im searching in the digital version instead of my hard copy. Seems like 1/4" is a bit stout to me though?

 

Looks like i have a case of bad eye syndrome. Looked again in the C.S.M and found this. Looks like 1/4" is the correct setting after all.

 

In the absence if contradicting documentation, I always set them at 1/4”.
