'66 442 steering shaft grd. For horn
Hi,
With the steering wheel off, I try grounding the horn lead to the center shaft and horn does not work. It evidently is not a good ground... I can ground the horn lead to the outer steering housing and it works ok... I've never run into this before on any vehicle.. I will be rebuilding the whole column later, but just want to get it going for now..
Any ideas would be appreciated... Thanx... Bill

On 66s there is a ground wire/strap which bypasses the rubber disc in the rag joint and allows the horn to ground through the center shaft. It may be missing or broken or something. The wire goes from a bolt on the upper side of the disc to a bolt on the lower side of the disc. It is normally hidden on the inside of the joint, you would need to look very closely to see evidence of it. You can do a test by using a jumper wire from the bolts above to below the rubber disc.

Thanx for the suggestion.. Sounds like that is exactly what's going on... Bill
I checked with an ohm meter and you were right.. no continuity thru the rag
joint.... Looks like its had its day anyway, a replacement is my fix ... Thanx again... Bill
