I want to tighten up the rear suspension in my 1964 Ninety Eight. I am looking for some bushing options.
I have checked all of my usual parts sources with negative results.
I've done some searching on this forum, and haven't found a clear answer.
So, here goes (...Charlie and Joe, I'm looking in your direction...) Does anyone carry a set of rear suspension bushings for the Ninety Eight? If so, who?
If not, is there a set that crosses over from another car (ie. Chev/Buick/Caddilac)?
I don't really want to resort to a custom setup (ie. Hotchkis). This is a cruiser, not a pro-tourer or track car.
You need eight. Keep in mind that Rare Parts tools up to make unobtanium parts and needs to recoup their investment given a miniscule market. And Hotchkis (and any other aftermarket supplier) makes exactly nothing for that car.
But, I'm also a clever guy and good at bodging and crafting parts. Maybe I'll take 'em down and find a suitable substitute.
The reality is that all you need are tubular arms with end fittings that have the correct ID for the bolt and the correct center-to-center length. On these cars, all eight bushings are in the control arms, unlike the later cars where the two upper rear ones are pressed into the rear end housing. If you have any welding skills, it is not difficult to fabricate rear control arms using rod ends or the metal spherical ball joint bushings that are available.

yes! That's exactly what I was thinking.
I'm always interested in exciting new projects
