3.8 coolant line
3.8 coolant line
There is a metal coolant line that circulates for the throttle body. Its tucked just underneath the TB. Its got a plate with a gasket that is held by 2 studs. I cant find it in any diagrams to be able to look up a GM part number. There is a second bent tube just above the bolted on one that has O rings and it gets pressed in that I believe also circulates coolant. I cant find the name of this tube either to hunt down replacements. They have corrosion holes in them and then leak on top of the motor. Anybody know how to ID these rascals?
The 3.8l Series II used in FWD 88s and 98s (early to mid 90s) used a belt tensioner that was a coolant prlenum. Two hose barbs fitted onto the belt tensioner which led to the heater core. These hose barbs would often fail since the OE barbs were plastic. You can get aftermarket metal replacement fittings.
GM also used coolant in throttle bodies and alternators during those years. I recall reading on a Cadillac forum that someone had to tap the throttle body on their car and install an NPT hose barb in it to make a repair.
Post a pic and let us know what car you're working on.
