1972 Spoiler Deck Lid Stripe Delete

I keep seeing this in advertisements for '72 442's and some '71 442's. It notes that the 442 has the correct "Deck Lid Stripe Delete" that is required with the factory spoiler option. I know the spoiler was not available in 1972, so where did this "Deck Lid Stripe Delete" claim originate from? I thought it might be for another model or year, but I cannot find anything about a deck lid stripe delete. It does not even make sense - why would the stripe need to be deleted even if the deck lid spoiler was available.

I never heard of just a trunk stripe delete, and being that the ones that were part of the 442 option, well, those were the ones that ran along the lip of the lid, and would not have anything to do with the spoiler. Are the ads that you are seeing factory ads or seller claims?

These are seller claims, which are seen repeatedly in for sale advertisements. The only "Stripe Delete" option that I know of is the '70 W-30 option, not sure if it was available for the 71/72 models. Out of curiosity, I did try to find out if the standard 442 for the 70/72 model years could be ordered without stripes, but no luck.

Usually sellers will make just about any claim to make their vehicle more "rare".

I agree. This is one of the stranger one's I've seen. Only thing I can think of is that someone added a spoiler to a non-striped deck lid, or failed to have the deck lid striped along with the rest of the car, and used the "delete option" as an excuse as to why the trunk lid was not striped like the rest of the car - and it caught on.

Just another example of seller BS. Ignore it.
