1971 Cutlass Grill

What is the easiest way to remove the grill to be able to access mounting for the stone guard? I have seen 2 sections in the Chassis Manual, bumpers & front sheet metal, yet neither addresses how to accomplish removal. My car had front end damage prior to my purchase. Bumper was replaced, but some things still don't line up well. In addition to needing to adjust the bumper, the stone guard has too large a gap from the hood. The left grill is out 1/2" at the top, in the center.

It isn't much fun. Plan to remain on your back for some time. Negotiating, aligning the bumper is rather straight forward once you locate the nuts/bolts/brackets. I found using a hydraulic floor jack (w/ towels) works well for securing/holding/maneuvering the bumper into position.

Thank you. Those are better than the pictures I found in my factory manual. I've read several posts about this subject & it sounds like we will need to loosen the bumper anyway. I'll get my son to assist. Thanks again for the pictures. Al

The images are from the 1971 Oldsmobile Product Information Manual (PIM) a.k.a. & commonly referred to as the Factory Assembly Manual (FAM). You'll notice the name of the manual on the lower RH corner of the images.

The PIM is long out-of-print and good paper copies are difficult to come by (as are any digital versions). You can reach out to CO member Hairy Olds if you're interested in purchasing a PIM. He has the best copies available that I've seen.

I found it easiest to remove all bumper bracket bolts except the 2 rearmost ones- loosen them and let bumper swing down watching wiring, etc. Then easier to get to grilles, etc.
