Question 1970 Dash - Remove Bezels to Swap Woodgrain?

A previous owner installed the aftermarket '70 burlwood overlay on the dash of my convertible. I prefer the original woodgrain overlay and have sourced mint woodgrain. In order to install, I need to remove the two "bezels" for the wipers and convertible top. It has been a long time since I've attempted removing the bezels from underneath (or through the gauge pod?). Anyone have a quick and straightforward approach to removing those two bezels so I can get the switches removed to swap the woodgrain?

I've not had to remove either bezel on my '72 but did have to replace the convertible top switch - was a PITA but ultimately had to work through the open gauge hole with a small mirror and I if I recall correctly, a tiny 1/4" open wrench. I recall the mounting bolts being positioned nearly right up against a dash frame bracket, so getting in between it to undo them from the back side of the dash was a gymnastic act.

I do recall there are some prior threads on the board about this process so u can also try searching them to see what others have done (or recommended) in the past.

70sgeek is right, it’s a PITA to remove the bezels, I’ve used 1/4” ratchet with an extension to get the nuts off, I don’t recall the size…this is where a mirror is helpful to find the fasteners location.
Good luck..

the socket/wrench size is 1/4" (as 70sgeek mentioned above)....the stamped steel "speed" nuts that are used to hold the two chrome bezels on.

Here is a picture. Of course you will have the plug to deal with also. Good luck.

Pull the gauge bezel, then pull the speedometer and fuel gauge. This will you access to the back of the dash. This is the easiest way that I have found. Hope this helps.
