1970 350 Cutlass S manifold leak at the exhaust combiner

The parts circled.Hello experts,

I have an exhaust manifold leak at the combiner (exhaust manifold connection to exhaust pipe).

1. Is it hard to tight it up from underneath the car?
2. Does it have a gasket that probably needs to be replaced?

Again, Rocket 350 engine with original exhaust manifolds

Any thoughts experts?

If its original manifolds theres no gasket there. Its easy enough to tighten up. is it asingle exhaust or duals both can be done w oe manifolds

Thank you sir. It was originally single exhaust but converted to dual exhaust. The leak is on the driver side.

So basically you have this. Yeah, I realize that a 1970 would have a 380001 driver side manifold. Use Walker Acousti/Seal on the metal flange.

The key is to have an extra set of hands hold the head pipe to the manifold while you tighten the two bolts to the manifold. If you try to draw the pipe up to the manifold using just the two bolts without holding it in place, you'll inevitably end up with a leak. I learned this one the hard way. As others have mentioned, put some sealer around the opening of the manifold to help with the seal. Lastly, the bolt towards the front of the car is key in terms of when you tighten it. If you tighten the back bolt first, it'll create an issue with the seal at the front. I ended up using an air ratchet with a long extension and snugged each bolt a little at a time so they were even. Good luck!
