69 cutlass s - looking to refinish the dash section below the instrument panel- same panel that ends at the glove box- woodgrain in 442's i think. Is ther a way to remove this plastic piece without removing the whole dash pad? manual looks like it is only a few screws, but i'm wondering if it is possible to get to them with the rest of the dash in place- or was it installed before the dash pad was put on.
It’s not terribly difficult, just time consuming. If you decide to tackle it, I personally think it’d much easier to remove the dash with all the wiring attached. Start by removing the seats. Put down a heavy blanket, otherwise the studs for the seat will shred your back. Remove the bolts that hold the climate control to the dash, or remove the cables/hoses from the control panel. Disconnect the engine side of the firewall connector, lower and disconnect the steering column wiring, disconnect the speedo, and remove all the screws for the dash to dashboard support. Work slowly, I have no doubt there are things I forgot to mention
