1953 steering gear "ballnut"

Hi everyone

DOES ANYONE ON HERE HAVE AN OLDSMOBILE 1953 CHASSIS PARTS BOOK?

I need to know the GM part numbers for the steering box "ballnut" for manual AND for power steering boxes. This is for a 1953 Olds 98. the part is section 6.841.

ANY help would be soooooo appreciated.

The number is 270788 . It doesn't differentiate between power steering or not on models between 1953 and 1955.

270788 It is the three bolt type. 1953-55 All; and 1956 through at least 1958 manual steering which have the worm bearing adjuster in the steering gear housing end cover.

We really need a steering gear expert here to answer your question properly. I have a '55, and I thought that they were referring to the number of bolts which held the side cover on, but I'm not sure. The same parts book refers to the 1949 - 1952 models as the 1 bolt type. Somehow it doesn't seem likely that the cover would be held by only one bolt. But I don't know.
