To put Thermo-Tec insultating tape on exhaust manifold or heat shroud pipe?

To put Thermo-Tec insultating tape on exhaust manifold or heat shroud pipe?
I bought a couple roles of this for another reason, but that reason is no longer applicable. Anywho, does anyone think this is a good idea? Theoretically it sounds like a good idea, but also I read that the insulation can damage the car as heat cannot escape.
