Wipers not going all the way to park position
Wipers not going all the way to park position
Could anyone explain to me how to adjust the wiper motor such that the wipers go all the way down to park position. It needs to go about another 1 to 1.5 inches more down. This is on a 71 cutlass.

Remove (carefully so you don't scratch any paint) the arms from the splines and re-mount them a few degrees toward the bottom.
That might work on a 66 Cutlass, but not on a 71. The driver side is a double arm that will only go in one position. I can tell you how to do it, but before that, I want to know if they EVER went down. I think that's why Alan asked if the motor was changed. There are motors out there that look right, but they don't have the ability to retract the wipers. I spent a long time trying to adjust mine to park on a car I bought, only to find out it was a Chevy truck motor that looked perfect, but would never retract the wipers.

Yes, I did replace the wiper motor. When I got the car, it had wrong type of wiper motor. It did not have a park position. They always were on the windshield. Got the right motor that lowers the wiper to their parked position below the windshield. Since installing, it never did go all the way down, but good enough compared to what I had... So I was happy. But now it is starting to bug me. They should go down a little bit farther. I lost the install instruction which I recall did talk about adjusting it to get them in the parked position. So, maybe one of you remember how to adjust it. MrOlds69 is right. The wipers can only be mounted one way. No spline on these. Sounds like MrOlds69 knows they type I have. Please let me know how to adjust this motor.
Do you have a Fisher Body Manual for your car? Your problem is described with great pics and text on Page 2-24. Here's the text part if you need it.
1. Raise hood and remove cowl vent screen
2. Remove the right arm and blade assembly
3. Loosen but do not remove the transmission drive link to the motor crank arm attaching nuts.
4. Rotate the left arm assembly to a position 1" below where the blade stops.
5. Tighten the attaching nuts on the transmission drive links to motor crankarm (19-29 in lbs)
6. Position the right arm and blade assembly 1" below the blade stop and install arm assembly to transmission shaft.
7. Lift the right and left arm and blade assemblies of the the stops.
8. Test for wipe pattern and park position. You car should be 1.61" - plus 1.1" or minus .5"
9. Reinstall cowl vent screen
NOTE: determine correct park position and outwipe dimension with wipers operating at Lo speed on WET glass.
