1970 cutlass 442 dash trim

I just seen my 70 442 doesn't have the pipe trim that goes around the whole dash, no holes to put it on, did 442s not use that trim?

According to the assembly manual, the trim was fasten with contact cement. There was an optional method to use two sided tape and 5 daubs of contact cement.

Well, we'll need input from the Guru's on this one. I've had a couple dash pads that don't look like anything was ever in that groove. So I would ask the question did some come without that trim piece?

It was an option, whether part of the Custom Interior, or Wood Grain Instrument option, I'm not sure.

Question

Years ago, I had two 1970 442's, both with buckets/console and 4 spd., and both of them had the dash trim; as I recall, it looked kinda chintsy, being glued into a groove, though!

I, too, am not sure whether it was optional, or came in another trim package?

The plastic chrome trim was standard equipment on the 442 and the Cutlass Supreme. I believe it was an option on the Cutlass. In 1970 it was glued on, but it tended to come off, so in 71 they were installed with plastic push pins. They are reproed and come with the pins.

My 71 442 does not have the push pin holes or trim. Funny thing is I got points deducted at the Olds Nationals for it being missing when my car is in the Modified class!

Does your 442 have the woodgrain along the lower dash where the radio and glove box are? It should have, like a Cutlass Supreme. You must remember mistakes were made on the assembly line, as they had to keep the lines going. My 442 came through without the chrome backing plates behind the front door armrests. That was a feature of the 442 over a Cutlass "S", borrowed from the Cutlass Supreme.
