Missouri HB-36 front plate
Missouri HB-36 front plate
I asked my State Representative Nate Walker if he would introduce legislation regarding the mounting of front license plates on vehicles in that sometimes it presents an issue of mounting ie. drilling holes in chrome bumpers, etc. I would never do it on my 70 442 as the bumper was on the car from PA., a non-front plate state. On other vehicle forums, such as trucks, sometimes a winch mount would be where the front plate would go. This has been an issue with many people with different vehicles. Therefore Nate has introduced HB36. I will admit I have not read it yet, but anything is better than nothing. I will post more info on this as I get it. With what little info I have I wanted to advise MISSOURi members of this. That way they will know to at least look at it and if they like it to support it.
I was under the impression that it is legal to display only one plate under certain restrictions/rules. Missouri has been a one plate state in earlier years.
My example would be 1971. Under the vanity plates rules, one could have a single plate as long as its a "year of manufacture" date. Simply buy a 1971 MO. vintage plate, register it under the vanity rules. As long as no one has the same sequence of letters/numbers and its not lewd in any way, it can be registered.
The other example is "F" Farm plates for trucks. They only have to display one plate.
But hey, I could be totally wrong.

When I spoke with Nate about this he said he would research it. Besides the collector cars there are vehicles with tools ie. winches that make if difficult for an area for front plates. I was never stopped for not having a front plate in CA or MO. The idea was to clarify and just make it so that if you had an issue with the front plate mounting that you could put it somewhere else, just put in on the visor(like I do my truck). One of the legislators tried to do away with the front plate as it would save the state 1.5 million $$ but supposedly the MHP wanted front plates so they could keep track of drivers with those lic. plate readers they have on their patrol cars. The bottom line is I hope maybe this bill will pass so people don't have to damage bumpers, etc. to mount what is really and unnecessary headache. And if you have personal plates, veteran plates, etc. by all means mount them on the front and back! It's choice and as long as the fees are paid on the vehicle, we should have choice.
