Worlds oldest car event.

Today is the London to Brighton veteran car run.
It celebrates the repeal of a law that required automobiles in Britain to be preceded by a man carrying a red flag walking at no more than 4mph.

Any car built before 1905 can take part, the oldest dating back to 1892, the object is to make it from Hyde Park in London to Brighton sea front on the English south coast, a journey of about 55 miles.
There is at least one Oldsmobile taking part, other American makes, some long defunct brands, are cheek by jowl with Europe's finest of the day.
There are steam powered and electric vehicles also attempting to make the journey.

As you might imagine, breakdowns are commonplace, and it is a cold wet November day. But the enthusiasm of the participants, the camaradarie shown, and the atmosphere along the route make for a great day out for anyone with a love for old machines being used for what they were made for.

It is being shown on Motors tv UK, it may be possible to link up to the station online for anyone who wants to see if they can identify any American cars taking part, or just want to see such venerable cars in action

Roger.

They're showing the Barcelona GT right now, for whatever it's worth.

I picked this up from the Nationals swap meet. I never saw one of these made up as from Baldwin motion. Coincidentally I live a few blocks from where Baldwin Motion’s shop was. I don’t know much about the shops association with Oldsmobiles. —Billy

I am wondering how this post related to the seven year old thread. Nice model though.

I apologize. Not sure how it got there. Thought I posted in the 2021 nationals thread.
