rear defogger

I have a 69 442 with a rear defogger that has a hi low switch above the radio that was not working. I ran new wires but can only get it to work in hi speed. What do I need to make it operate in hi and low. Also looking for a 69 powder blue 4 speed with white interior 442. Anybody know where one is.

Check switch for continuity when in low with an ohmmeter.

There may be a resistor to drop voltage to 6 in the switch's circuit. Check the wiring diagram.

The low speed wire is nichrome wire, a resistance wire, similar to the wire in the ignition points circuit. The length of the wire determines the total resistance. Check the old wire with an Ohm meter and put the resistance wire back where you found it, and that should give you low speed. The resistance wire usually has a different type of insulation cover than the regular electrical wire. In the chassis manual it is displayed with black checks on the specific (pink?) ign. wire.
