Adjusting headlight beams?

Is there a way of adjusting your headlight beams without a headlight adjuster?
I seem to remember parking the car on level ground and shining the beams against a garage door. Maybe I imagined that. LOL
Anyway if that is possible what distance should the car be from the doors and how high and wide should the distance be at the doors.
This is for a 72 Cutlass.
Thanks,
Fred

The service manual has the procedure. You can find them on wildaboutcars.com. It works well.

Yes there is, look in up on the internet you are the second guy in a week to ask this, it's very simple you just need a wall, magic marker, tape measure and it has to be almost dawn or dusk to do it.
I did it last spring and it worked great.
