"Red White & Boom" McKinney, TX car show

Anyone in the DFW area planning on attending this show from 10am-3pm?
http://www.mckinneytexas.org/homerig...=2904&did=1124

I probably will, mainly because I do not have much to do that weekend.
Of course I do dread the fact that it will be hotter than %@#! that day...
I don't anticipate winning anything due to my ratty seats, carpet, and engine paint; I'm going mainly to look at other cars.

I hope to see lots of Oldsmobiles!
After the show i will drive to Cedar Creek lake to see some different fireworks up close and stock up on beer (lots cheaper out there).

I moved west years ago. But pictures would be nice!

Cedar Creek Lake - wasn't there a big bar where you could bring in your own liquor? Ah man how I miss Honky Tonking in Texas!

My folks live in McKinney TX but I doubt they will be there, they aren't car people.

Don,

I will keep my eyes peeled for that bar when I go - I have not hear of it.

Now there IS a Mexican restaraunt just north of Wylie on 78 that is BYOB, AND they give out FREE Margaritas with dinner! Strong ones, too!
I went there Friday night with the 'bike gang' and we had a blast. After just 2 of those margs, I was almost too toasted to ride! Luckily I was close to home. The food was good, too - a 3 enchalada plate for 9 bucks fed me for 2 days... I will need to visit there more often!!

I will get lots of pictures, and I can post some Olds pics.

Last month at the Monthly Muscle show in Plano a guy had a pristine 66 442 with tri-power... It not only looked awesome but the sound of it about melted my heart...

Well the show was overly successful, except in the Oldsmobile content...
They anticipated 150 cars and they got 237! It took them another 1.5 hours to judge and I did not leave until 530 or so.
Now out of 237 cars, only 3 (including mine) were Oldsmobiles.
A 50's 88 and a 77 Cutlass joined my 72 as the Olds trio.
Since I had nothing to really do, i circled all the lots looking for newcomers. One more blue 71 Cutlass convertible showed up for 30 minutes and left - too bad as it was very nice looking (despite being labeled as a W-31 with no ram air hood...)

I wish there was and Oldsmobile-only catagory - I might could have gotten 2nd place...
(The 88 would have been first and the 71 conv did not register. The 77 had quite a bit more wear than the pic shows, but it is original!)

So here are the pictures of all the Oldsmobiles (less mine), and one non-Olds.
The special thing about this 1929 Chevy is that it came from a museum and has NEVER been restored or rebuilt. It has 29K miles and looks brand new! The tires even show originality (lots of cracks) and the owner plans to replace them soon for safety.

Enjoy!

Nice pictures. That 88 is really nice, love those rear fender spears/tail lights! That little Chevy is truly a survivor, it is amazing what can be found in barns even now. Wish I could have seen them all. About Oldsmobile representation, I don't mind that, I get my networking and comraderie here at this site. It just makes our cars that much more rare and notice-able in my opinion.

Ironically, this old car was found in a barn... It had been in a small private museum for 40-50 years until its owner passed away. The property buyer did not really care about the cars and moved them to a leaky old barn on the property and left them for 5 years until they were sold to individuals, not by auction. The current owner of the car knew about the sale and wanted the '29. The property owner/seller did not know much about cars and asked if 9K was okay. Naturally he wrote out a check on the spot, had the title in hand, and drove off in it.
All he did was washed it up good and polished the paint.
Appraised value of the car now? About 100K, as there were no more of this model known to exist...

The only mod done on it is the vacuum operated "wolf whistle" seen in the engine bay. It was added before it went into the museum - it was a novelty accessory bavk then.
He still uses it to whistle at passing women... I got a video of him doing that - everyone was cracking up...
