CARB ADJUSTMENT

i just recently purchased a 71 olds cutty with 83K on the motor, at least that is what the dash and third party seller say, well when i got it i didnt change the oil or tune it or nothing but i ordered the parts to do so but since autobarn is so slow i havent done it yet, so i drove it around the block down the high way cranked it up daily just b/c and so the other day it wont turn over, no clicking, but it ALMOST cranks but just doesnt, it cranked then stalled , and since i got it, it idled very low and stalled sometimes at stop lights when im going slow it just doesnt have the kick. i want to adjust the carb but im not sure how to do so, and yes i am going to give it the tune up as soon as my parts come....and no its not a daily driver just a toy for me to start out with...

update

ok so not cranking it for a week and went out side and it cranked right up, i think a vacuum hose was lose coming from under the carb, so i flushed the radiator and im waiting for it to cool off so i can drain it and fill it up with the freeze and take it on the high way real quik...my neighbor said its "missing" and he was listening to the exhause and then the engine and he said he wil figure it out when i get the parts to tune it up.

No.I just installed the tank as soon as I got it.I'm thinking the filter on my sending unit may need replacing.I took it out last night and ran it up and down the street and no problems.I did take the pcv out though and capped it off on the carb.

Problem solved. The filter on my sending unit was shot and letting alot of stuff through the lines and into my engine.I replaced the sending unit and my problem is solved.
